Can’t wait to finish my master’s in 2023
I no longer find joy in my master’s. At this point, it is just taking too much of my time and energy. The content is no longer exciting and is outdated. I have gone as far as compiling feedback from students for the course leaders and the dean, and the feedback was ignored. The promises from the course leaders to us were broken. I am disappointed and cannot wait to be completely done with my studies. I felt falsely advertised to by the university and would not recommend the University of Sussex to anyone.
Working for free isn’t an opportunity, and neither is working below the industry average
I saw a post on LinkedIn saying “working for free isn’t an opportunity” and I’d like to add that working below the industry average is also not a great opportunity either. As much as we can enjoy work, this does not translate to having to settle for less pay because there will be other jobs that will pay you for your worth aka the industry standard. As sad as this may sound, we all have the responsibility to work pay and pay bills so we can live to go to work the next day, we should also be able to have the funds to enjoy ourselves outside of work. Especially in this economy, having a job because you find joy in it and settling for less pay is no longer enough, which is sad.
Balance and boundaries aren’t overrated
What exactly is balance and what exactly are boundaries? In a fast-paced world like today, balance and boundaries are rare but yet something I crave a lot in my life. As I’m writing this, I am staring at my calendar and it is quite a scary place. When I say scary, I mean it’s packed with plans and things to do. Not so much seeing my friends but filled with personal projects which I don’t mind doing, but it can get super exhausting.
Moving forward, I need to start finding balance. Balance means enough time for work, personal life, career, family and career without compromising rest. As an individual with a lot of side projects, finding balance can be a little bit difficult.
